United unveil new keeper

CK5ws_sWcAA_7QeManchester United have completed the signing of Argentina keeper Sergio Romero from Serie A side Sampdoria.

The Argentine, who played under Louis Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar, has signed a three-year deal with an option for a further 12 months and will, at least initially, replace the departing Victor Valdes as David De Gea’s understudy at Old Trafford.

However, with De Gea’s future still uncertain, Romero could even end up as United’s number one this season.

“Sergio is a very talented goalkeeper. He was a young keeper during my time at AZ Alkmaar and I am delighted he is joining Manchester United,” he said.

“He had a fantastic World Cup last summer in Brazil, although that is something I have put to the back of my mind!

“He will be a great addition to the team and I am looking forward to working with him once again.”

The Argentinian said joining United was a “dream come true”, adding he was looking forward to work with Van Gaal again.

“I am absolutely delighted to join Manchester United,” he said.

“To play for the biggest club in the world is a dream come true for me.

“Louis van Gaal is a fantastic manager and I cannot wait to get started on this new and exciting challenge in my career.”
