Barcelona forward Pedro has told his teammates that he will join Manchester United and he’s set to submit a transfer request, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
Marca, which is traditionally closer to Real Madrid than Barcelona, suggests that the Spain international has decided to leave the Camp Nou this summer and has told the club’s board and his teammates that he wants to join United.
On Thursday, Sergio Busquets revealed he had a conversation with the 27-year-old over his future and admitted his teammate could leave the club during the transfer window, as he seeks to play regularly after being confined on the sidelines by the arrival of Luis Suarez.
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique insisted he wanted to keep the forward at the club next season, but the Spanish giants have already lowered Pedro’s release clause from £109m to £22m, while Marca adds Barcelona would only agree to sell the 27-year-old if he submitted a formal transfer request.
Last week, rumours emerged suggesting Louis Van Gaal was set to trigger the forward’s release clause, as he seeks to add options to his frontline.
A versatile forward who can play out wide but is also comfortable through the middle in a “false nine” role, Pedro has seen his first team opportunities drastically reduced since the arrival of Luis Suarez.
The Spain international, whose contract with Barca expires in 2019, started only seven of the 35 league games he played last season, although he still managed to notch up six goals and five assists, with a further five goals in the Spanish Cup.
