United target “could leave” Barcelona

pedro_56Manchester United target Pedro could leave Barcelona, according to Spain international Sergio Busquets.

Speaking in San Francisco ahead of their game against United, the Barcelona midfielder admitted his teammate could soon be set to leave the Nou Camp.

“Yes, I have spoken to him but I won’t tell you what he said,” said Busquets.

“It was a private conversation. I would want him to stay, I would love him to stay.

“He’s a friend of mine and it will be his final decision.

“He wants to play more and get more minutes. That’s what he wants. But we are in a team of great players and it’s hard for him. Finally, it will be his decision, but I hope he stays.”

Last week, rumours emerged suggesting Louis Van Gaal was set to trigger the forward’s release clause, as he seeks to add options to his frontline.

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique insisted he wanted to keep the 27-year-old at the club next season, but the Spanish giants have already lowered Pedro’s release clause from £109m to £22m and they seemed poised to lose him this summer.

A versatile forward who can play out wide but is also comfortable through the middle in a “false nine” role, Pedro has seen his first team opportunities drastically reduced since the arrival of Luis Suarez.

The Spain international, whose contract with Barca expires in 2019, started only seven of the 35 league games he played last season, although he still managed to notch up six goals and five assists, with a further five goals in the Spanish Cup.
