£96m-rated midfielder drops hint over Man Utd transfer

Manchester United have today confirmed we have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk over the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Fred.

The 25-year-old is believed to be joining the Red Devils in a deal worth around £47 million.

Jose Mourinho is expected to sign two new central midfielders this summer following the retirement of Michael Carrick and expected departure of Marouane Fellaini.

Fred is set to be the first of those, whilst Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has also been very strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months.

It has been suggested that we have made an offer of £96 million for the Serbian international; more than we paid for club record signing Paul Pogba two years ago.

Milinkovic-Savic has now dropped a big hint that he could be set to follow Fred to Manchester United by liking a post on Instagram reporting our latest signing.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored an impressive 12 goals and recorded three assists in 35 Serie A appearances this season for fifth-place finishing Lazio.  The 23-year-old is part of the Serbia squad heading to the World Cup this summer.

How accurate the reports are that suggest we’re willing to offer £96 million for the tall midfielder remain to be seen.  The acquisition of Fred now means Jose Mourinho can play the Brazilian alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the middle of his 4-3-3 formation.
