Manchester United must consider a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo during this summer’s transfer window.
The Red Devils bolstered their midfield with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. They also signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan at the beginning of the year.
There is a possibility that United could pursue a permanent deal for Sabitzer but regardless of this, the club must target another marquee midfield signing.
In our view, Caicedo could be the perfect acquisition. The Ecuadorian is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League at the moment.
Man Utd must land Caicedo ahead of Premier League rivals
Caicedo was on the radar of Arsenal and Chelsea in January but Brighton made it clear that he was not for sale. He has since signed a new deal but this has not ended the speculation.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea could return for him at the end of the campaign and we believe United should compete with the London giants for the services of the 21-year-old.
United currently have an elite defensive midfielder in Casemiro. The Brazilian has been tremendous with his defensive and offensive contributions from the number six role.
However, there has been a dip in the performances when Casemiro has been sidelined and United must invest on a young midfielder who has the potential to become world-class.
Caicedo would be an ideal fit for United. The youngster has barely put a foot wrong since his Premier League debut last year and he was brilliant against Chelsea earlier today.
The Ecuadorian clearly won the midfield battle against Enzo Fernandez. He had 81 touches and completed an impressive 92 per cent of his passes (60/65) attempted.
Defensively, he was also excellent with 11 duels and eight tackles won. In our opinion, he was a key catalyst behind Brighton’s dominance of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
If Caicedo were to join United this summer, he could be used in regular rotation with Casemiro. There is also the possibility that the duo could play together in the big matches.
Arsenal’s final bid of £70 million was insufficient to land Caicedo in January and Brighton could easily hold out for more than £100m when the transfer window reopens this summer.
The deal will be expensive for whoever signs him but he would be a terrific piece of investment for long-term success. United must grab the opportunity ahead of their rivals.
