Manchester United are at Wembley Stadium on Sunday as we face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The Blues headed into the game with an additional 48 hours’ rest, having beaten Norwich City 1-0 on Tuesday, whilst we were at Crystal Palace on Thursday. We’d also been in action versus Southampton on Monday.
With this in mind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have no choice but to rotate the side as finishing in the top four is our priority and is in our own hands by avoiding defeat against West Ham United and then beating Leicester City.
So here’s the team I think we’ll see named for the FA Cup:
Goalkeeper: Sergio Romero
No reason for Ole to drop Sergio Romero as our cup goalkeeper, particularly with David de Gea not particularly impressing since the restart.
Defence: Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams
I would expect Brandon Williams to be back from his head injury suffered on Monday to go into the starting lineup on Sunday. Timothy Fosu-Mensah impressed in his first appearance of the season on Thursday and could keep his place in the starting lineup, but moving across to right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in need of a rest. I am expecting Harry Maguire to keep his place, whilst Eric Bailly comes in for Victor Lindelof.
Midfield: Scott McTominay, Fred; Jesse Lingard, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James
Scott McTominay and Fred formed a good partnership before the disruption and I expect this duo to get the start, allowing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic a rest. Daniel James hasn’t started since our first game since the restart but has worked hard in his cameo appearances since. I think he’ll start down the right and Jesse Lingard on the right. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bruno Fernandes keeps his number 10 role.
Striker: Odion Ighalo
Anthony Martial could be handed a well-deserved rest for the FA Cup as Odion Ighalo gets recalled to the starting lineup. The Nigerian has been good when he’s started in the cups for us this season so don’t be surprised if he gets among the goals this weekend too.
This is how our team could look tomorrow:
