Anthony Martial should keep his place in the starting line-up when Manchester United face Galatasaray on the road in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage clash.
The Red Devils registered a third-straight league win on Sunday. They secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Everton away from home. Alejandro Garnacho scored the opener with a sensational overhead kick.
Martial also made key contributions in the second half. The Frenchman was picked to lead the line in Rasmus Hojlund’s injury absence and took his opportunity with both hands.
He won the penalty converted by Marcus Rashford before scoring a goal of his own. In our view, the 27-year-old should keep his place in the must-win game in Istanbul in midweek.
Rashford won’t play any part after his sending-off against Copenhagen last time around. This could open up an opportunity for manager Erik ten Hag to experiment with his formation.
Instead of playing with a traditional 4-2-3-1 set-up, the Dutchman should go with a double-six formation (4-2-2-2) with Martial lining up alongside Hojlund, who could be fit for the game.
United should start on the front foot against the Turkish champions. Hojlund and Martial are both good with their hold-up and link-up play and could be the perfect foil for each other.
Martial has regularly replaced Hojlund in games this season. When the duo have played together, Martial has generally featured on the left wing instead of playing up front alongside the Dane.
After his goal involvements on Sunday, we would like to see Ten Hag partner him with Hojlund. The £36 million signing is a confidence player, who needs to be backed after a top display in Merseyside.
