3-4-2-1: Chelsea predicted XI to face Man Utd

Manchester United host Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday as both teams return from midweek Champions League action.

The Blues were held 1-1 at home by Barcelona on Tuesday whilst we were out in Sevilla 24 hours later.

Antonio Conte’s side trail us by three points whilst we dropped to third on Saturday following Liverpool’s win.

Here is the Chelsea team I expect to face us:

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

This match will see two goalkeepers who Real Madrid are interested in.  Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois hasn’t always been at his best this season but is still a top goalkeeper.

Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger

This has been Chelsea’s back three for a few weeks now with Gary Cahill’s decline in form seeing the England international demoted to the bench.  Andreas Christensen has had a solid debut season at Stamford Bridge but was solely at fault for Barcelona’s equaliser midweek.  David Luiz is injured whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the top defenders in the Premier League.

Midfield: Victor Moses, N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Marcos Alonso

Antonio Conte continues to play with wing backs and Marcos Alonso made his return on the left in the Champions League earlier this week.  Assuming the Spaniard is good to play two games in a week after a three-week layoff then he’ll be attacking down that side at Old Trafford.  He’s a good threat both as a goalscorer and drilling crosses into the box.  On the opposite flank is the hardworking Victor Moses.  Tiemoue Bakayoko is currently out injured, much to the joy of many Chelsea fans.  This has seen Cesc Fabregas start alongside N’Golo Kante.  Nemanja Matic will need to stick close to the Spanish playmaker to prevent him supplying the front three.

Attack: Pedro, Eden Hazard; Alvaro Morata

Eden Hazard is on fire and we’ll need to keep him under close attention.  Perhaps we can replicate Sevilla’s gameplan on Alexis Sanchez Wednesday by fouling the superstar quickly and often.  Pedro is also a goalscoring threat on the right whilst Alvaro Morata is back from a back injury and I think he’ll start ahead of Olivier Giroud.  The Spaniard has been quiet in recent months and we have Eric Bailly ready to make his first start of 2018.
