Manchester United have been backed to sign new Leicester City left-back Timothy Castagne in the future. [source-MEN]
Castagne joined Leicester from Italian side Atlanta as a replacement for Ben Chilwell.
Genk technical director Dimitri De Conde managed Castagne during his time at the Belgium club and backed him to move to a club like United in the future.
He told Het Nieuwsblad: “In modern football, there are not many players who can bring what he can”.
“He’s reliable. He has a good basic technique, seldom gives away his position, does not lose the ball. Meunier is also an excellent player, but because Timothy was trained as a defender, he is more stable defensively”.
He added: “I found it more difficult to estimate whether Tielemans would live up to it at Leicester at that high pace. He did it”.
“With Timothy, I know he will stand out at Leicester. He can become one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League. And then move on to clubs like Arsenal or Manchester United.”
Castagne could fit into United’s squad in a few years. The left-back position has been an area of concern for United for the past few years.
The current starter Luke Shaw has injury concerns and his backup Brandon Williams is too inexperienced to mount a serious challenge for the spot.
United have been linked with a few left-backs this year to fill the void. Their target Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea this summer and United have also been talking to add Sergio Reguilion or Alex Sandro to their lineup for next season.
Castagne was an important part of Atlanta’s run in the UEFA Champions League this season, with the club reaching the semi-finals for the first time. They also earned a third-place finish in the Serie A and were the league’s top scorers this season.
The defender is only 24 right now and could be an integral part of United’s team for many seasons to come.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United should keep an eye out to see how he develops in his stint with the Foxes.
