23 goals at 15: Man Utd wonderkid JJ Gabriel crowned Premier League U18 Player of the Year after terrorising defenders

Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel has added another incredible milestone to his rapidly rising career after winning the Premier League Under-18 Player of the Year award.

Gabriel produced a breathtaking 2025-26 campaign, registering 23 goals and three assists in just 23 league appearances.

The achievement feels even more extraordinary given that the teenage sensation was only 14 years old when the season began.

Despite the growing hype surrounding his name, Gabriel remained humble and grateful while reacting to the prestigious recognition.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “I’d say [the Academy] helped me mature a lot.

“They help me to be very humble and keep my feet on the ground.

“I’m delighted to be working with him [Fletcher], he’s an amazing coach and has helped me so much this season to become a better player and the best version of myself.”

Gabriel started his career as an electric winger but U18 head coach Darren Fletcher has successfully unlocked another dimension of his game by deploying him in a more central attacking midfield role.

The 15-year-old is the second-highest goalscorer in the entire league, trailing Teddie Lamb by only two goals.

The academy star has already trained multiple times with the senior squad under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick.

He was unable to feature for the first team this season because of age restrictions, but excitement around his future continues to grow rapidly.

Many inside the club now expect Gabriel to receive opportunities during pre-season with the long-term aim of integrating him into senior football as early as next season.

Few young talents in Europe currently possess the level of excitement, confidence and natural ability Gabriel brings to the pitch.

It now feels less like a question of whether Gabriel will become a superstar and more about when he will explode onto the global stage and dominate his generation.
