Manchester United should consider a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana during this summer’s transfer window.
The 21-year-old joined the Toffees from Lille for £31 million last summer, and he has been one of their top performers.
The Belgian has been terrific with his defensive contributions, winning an impressive 2.3 tackles and 6.5 duels per game.
His displays have made him a mainstay with the national side and he was superb in the 3-0 win over Sweden last night.
Onana had 84 touches in the Euro 2024 qualifier, completing 87% of his passes.
He won 100% of his aerial duels, 100% of his take-ons and completed 100% of his long balls.
He also won six ground duels and made three clearances from the number six role.
In our opinion, Onana could be the perfect deputy for Casemiro next term, considering Scott McTominay looks likely to leave.
At 21, the Everton ace has yet to enter the prime of his career and he could be seen as Casemiro’s long-term successor.
He already looks an upgrade on McTominay and his arrival could encourage manager Erik ten Hag to consider rotation.
Since October, Casemiro has pretty much been an undisputed starter. He has only missed games through unlucky suspensions.
In Onana, United would have a top-class defensive midfielder with plenty of room for development.
The Belgian is unlikely to come on the cheap this summer, particularly if the Toffees avoid the drop.
It was claimed in January that he could be prised away for £50 million but his stock is steadily rising ahead of the summer.
United could face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal if they enter the race to sign the Belgian.
